18 months before enrollment: junior year spring

12 months before enrollment: fall of senior year

Recruiting season heats up. Coaches are watching. Early commitments start happening.

  • Start emailing coaches. Keep it short and direct
  • Take the SAT or ACT if your target schools require it
  • Complete your NCAA Eligibility Center registration if you haven't yet
  • Apply to NAIA schools if they're on your list (their process is faster)
  • Attend showcases, camps, or tournaments where U.S. coaches will be there

9 months before enrollment: winter of senior year

Offers start coming in. Stay on top of your inbox and ask questions before committing.

  • Respond to every coach email within 24 hours
  • Compare scholarship offers side by side
  • Schedule calls or video meetings with coaches who show real interest
  • Prepare your application documents: CV, motivation letter, recommendation letters
  • Retake the TOEFL or Duolingo if your score needs work
  • Keep your grades up. Your final transcript still matters

6 months before enrollment: spring of senior year

Decision time. By now the picture should be clear.

  • Sign your National Letter of Intent or scholarship agreement
  • Accept one offer and notify the other schools
  • Apply for your F-1 student visa. Follow the Form I-20, SEVIS fee, and interview checklist
  • Complete all enrollment paperwork for your university
  • Arrange housing, travel, and insurance
  • Stay in touch with your future coach and teammates

3 months before enrollment: summer before departure

Final stretch. Everything should be in place.

  • Attend your visa interview at the U.S. embassy
  • Book your flight to campus
  • Coordinate arrival details with your coach or international student office
  • Read the student athlete handbook and any required summer materials
  • Prepare your packing list and sort out banking, phone, and insurance
